MEET OUR REPUBLICAN COMMISSIONERS

What Does the Board of Commissioners Do?

Every time you drive on our streets, use the library, or hear a fire truck's siren in the distance, you are coming in contact with the work of our Board of Commissioners, a five-person board elected by the various wards which make up our township.

The Commission has jurisdiction over the following matters, among others:

  • Streets, sewage, and public works in general

  • Zoning and building issues, including issuing permits

  • Police and fire departments and emergency medical services

  • Recreation: public parks and swimming pools

  • Township library system and historical sites

The commission also levies part of the taxes you pay every year. Perhaps without realizing it, we all pay taxes to multiple jurisdictions--and we don't always direct our reaction to the correct government body.

Follow this link for a chart covering some basics of the obligations and jurisdiction of each body.

When and Where Does the Board of Commissioners Meet?

The commission meets three times a month. On the first and second Tuesdays of each month, it meets at the township building on Old York Road, while on the third Tuesday it meets at Curtis Hall on Church Road.

Transcripts of all the Board of Commissioners' meetings are available online. We strongly encourage you to take the time to familiarize yourself with them, so as to know the decisions being made on our behalf.
